Women of Stampede series round-up!

The Calgary Stampede for this year may be over, but the 7 books by the 7 authors of the Women of Stampede series are still in your local bookstore, and available to devour, one right after the other!

I had a great time with the Women of Stampede and our series of books. It’s been a whirlwind few weeks, with promotional events at Fort Calgary for the Stampede Invitational BBQ, and the pre-parade Stampede breakfast, the launch of the series at Owl’s Nest Books, and signings at various Chapters/Indigo locations in the Calgary area.

I also was featured in my local newspaper, the Cochrane Eagle! (Cochrane author releases Stampede love story)

Will there be other books in the series? We haven’t decided yet. It might be fun to keep this up! But in the meantime, check out the Women of Stampede Facebook group and the Women of Stampede website for more information. All the books are available online (Amazon, Kobo, iTunes, etc.) and also at Alberta Chapters/Indigo stores in paperback!

A little late, but I’m in the anthology Queer Christmas in Cowtown!

queer-christmas-in-cowtown-kindleCurated by M Jane Colette, this is a collection of non-fiction stories by YYC Queer Writers. It was #8 on the Calgary non-fiction bestsellers list last week!

A baker’s dozen of queer Christmas stories for the twelve days of Christmas. An exercise in writing—storytelling—story finishing—and story sharing.

The writers were asked to write “true” and “queer.” (Also, short. Because, shiny things!) Their interpretations of these instructions are as marvellously unique—and queer—and true—as they are.

The book is available on Amazon in paperback and ebook and all royalties go to Camp Fyrefly, “Canada’s only national leadership retreat for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, asexual, intersex, queer, questioning, and allied youth. The camp provides a space for youth to explore their identity, build resilience and enhance self-esteem, all while having an awesome camp experience. Participants return home with a support network of positive friendships, trusted adult mentors, and an empowered sense of self.”

Come to the When Words Collide convention!

If you’re in Calgary this coming weekend (August 10-12th, 2012), come check out the When Words Collide convention happening at the Village Park Inn (1804 Crowchild Trail NW).

I’ll be on a panel on Sunday morning at 10 a.m., talking about ‘Romance and Sex Through the Ages’. My fellow panelists are CaRWA members Michelle Beattie and Jade Buchanan, and we also have well-known novelist Kelley Armstrong, too.

And if you plan to stick around all weekend, check out some of the other excellent presentations and panels. I would recommend Saturday morning’s ‘Dead Men Still Talk’ presentation by Det. Sweet of the Calgary Police Service, the readings and Q&As by guest authors (Jack Whyte, Kelley Armstrong, et al.), and the live slush readings. Lots of the presentations and panels are geared towards writers, but if you’re a reader, there’s lots for you too.
